We're matched!

Postby Ivydragon » Jun 28, 2007 11:29 am

It's a little boy that is 6 years old, about 2 months younger than Adam. It will be an open adoption. We began corresponding with the first Grandmother in February, and then everything stonewalled, but the birthfather threatened to take him and disappear if the birthmother's side didn't start agreeing to this, so they did. The other Gma contacted us on May 30th, and things went well. We met the little boy and the birthfather, and things were good. He looks a lot like our oldest son when he was 6. We finally met the birthmom, who is in jail, on Tuesday, and she approves of us as well, so we're now all matched up, both Gmas like us, the birthfather and birthmother both like us, and we have been seeing the boy every week so that we're not strangers. He already is showing signs that he trusts us and feels safe in our home, which is good. He currently lives with his birthfather's mom, and two half-siblings who have been adopted by the Gma, but she's a single mom, and can't take on a 3rd child. She had 7 of her own.

We're just waiting for the legal end to come together to get the birthmom into court to terminate rights, followed by the birthfather, and then he can move in. Then we'll have to wait and see and make sure he is doing well in our home before the agency will file the termination of parental rights, so we hope everyone's happy with him after he's been here for a while, because anyone could change their mind at any point before the paperwork is filed. It's been chaotic, but good. We're doing a lot of driving. He lives two hours away. He and 2 of his birth siblings will be spending the night tomorrow night. :) The 6 kids all get along famously.

We're very happy and excited. There will be adjustments and issues, but he can verballize his feelings and thoughts better than just about any 6 year old I know, and that should help out a great deal. Thing is, he doesn't know about the adoption plans. So, we don't know how he'll respond to that, but there's a whole heap of people trying to figure out just how to tell him, and it's not going to be me.

Andrea

The oddest thing of all is his birthdate. Just a few weeks before I started searching out how to bring the 4th one home, even before we had the 3rd one in our home I was planning the 4th one, and I started just after this kid was born.

We hope it goes smooth, too. An overnight tomorrow, so we'll see.
