Permanent HG prevention in Canada

Postby Maria'sMommy » Jun 01, 2008 12:30 am

Does anyone know if DH and I will run into problems getting our provincial healthcare to cover both a vasectomy for him and a tubal for me? We're moving to Quebec and the surgeries will be done there.

Even though I only had mild HG this time around (and am now fluffy) neither one of us wants to risk it again. Plus, at some point I would like to enjoy sex again. I just don't see that happening if there's even a snowball's chance in hell that I could get pregnant again.

Well, I only know about BC. A vasectomy and tubals are covered for free under MSP. I would suggest maybe pming Gracie - she lives in Quebec and may know what's covered there.

Sorry to lose you to Quebec!! DH getting transfered there?

I would think they would cover it for each of you. If they try to say no because your spouse is sterilized, then just tell them that won't keep you from getting pg when you have sex with your boyfriends.

LOL about the boyfriends! I guess I could also point out that DH is a sailor who travels to foreign ports so we'd rather be safe than sorry.

Yes, DH is being transferred there. We leave at the end of June and are thrilled to be leaving BC (the Bring Cash province) and our long commute to work. Plus it's a shore posting for DH so it will be just like a regular 9-5 job for him.

I am not sure about Quebec but in Ontario it is covered for both...
I had already talked to my OB about it at my first appointment because I never ever want to have to go through any kind of HG ever again :( (I have had severe HG twice and that is more than enough for me)

I hope that you are able to get what you guys want. Wish that I had more info for you.

I'm late putting my 2 cents in but both tubals and vasectomies are fully covered in Quebec. No need to plead HG either...

Do you have to disclose that he is having a vasectomy to those doing your tubal? I would think that it should be covered.
