IMPORTANT NEWS FOR WOMEN WITH HISTORY OF SEVERE MORNING SICKNESS

Motherisk is conducting a prevention study involving women in Canada who had a previous pregnancy with severe Nausea and Vomiting (NVP) and who are now planning a pregnancy or currently pregnant with no NVP yet.

The aim of the study is to improve women’s quality of life by preventing the morning or all-day sickness from becoming severe again.

Study participation will consist of initial telephone interview, symptom management and regular follow-ups during the pregnancy. Another follow-up interview will be conducted 4-6 months after the baby is born.

The study is supervised by Dr. Gideon Koren, MD, and if you would be interested in participating in the study or to get more information, please contact study coordinator Caroline Maltepe at the NVP Healthline at 1-800-436-8477 or by e-mail caroline.maltepe@sickkids.ca

Oh, I wish I would have seen this a couple of months ago. I am in pregnancy #2, it is much better than the last one, but still experiencing NVP.

Joanna, can't wait to hear how this may work for you.

I just got an email back and Caroline mentioned that it is a 3 year study, so if you are thinking of getting PG again in the next 2 years , you can still join. I will be ttcing sometime between now and then so hopefully!!!

Caroline,

Wow, this is great! I'll alert a few head gals around here and make sure they look out for Canadian HGers.

Email me sometimes and catch me up on what your recommended protocol is nowadays. Has it changed much? I think I'm going to be getting around to organizing some protocols here, soon, and I hope to be following up with some women as well.

I spoke in DC in Sept., and we've got some great contacts.

Catch up soon,

Andy

For anyone that is interested, I'm officially part of this new study!!! :D I've spoken with Caroline and I'm going to start taking Diclectin at the first hint of nausea (which is what I had planned to do anyway) and I have to really concentrate on getting fluids, protein and fibre into me. She is going to send some stuff in the mail about the study so once I get that, I'll post more about it.

Very exciting! Now to just get that elusive BFP....

Erin,

I think you're right on time, since they are looking for women who aren't pg yet or who are but have not started with the nausea & vomiting... Cool!

Well I spoke with Caroline today and I get to be a part of the study. I start on the diclectin the minute I feel even a twinge of nausea (after the BFP of course! )
I feel so much more confident in the TTC now. She had such great information and suggestions for dealing with HG. I am ALMOST looking forward to the BFP. I want the baby not the PG!!!!!
