I got acupunctured

Postby nemomum » Feb 25, 2011 9:46 am

At the very end of my extreme HG pregnancy I thought a family friend was being really nice and understanding. I'd explained how I had tried EVERYTHING and how nothing helped except a bit of cyclazine. We laughed about how people would suggest ginger and sea bands, oh how we laughed. Then in her next email she asked in all innocence and asked if I had tried acupuncture....

I know she was just trying to help but I wasn't needing that kind of help. If I'd had superman's secret powers the computer screen would have melted under my furious laser eyes.

I know I get the acupuncture stuff too. I even spent $230 on bella band because my insurance wouldn't cover and it never even worked. I would be pretty frustrated if someone mentioned acupuncture by now.

I've been there too with people telling me maybe acupuncture would "make me feel better." People just don't get it. :( Sorry.

I met a lady who claimed that she could cure my hg in ten treatments. I am damn skeptical to begin with, and ended up with a relapse, bladder infection, and I'm out a few hundred dollars for treatment. I know people who've said that acupuncture worked miracles for them for pain disorders and such. The lady is also a TCM (traditional chinese medicine) doctor but the treatment she gave me did nothing for me except make me gag.

Many of my crunchy friends seem to think I need to try someone else. I can't afford it unfortunately.

Let me tell you, I am an acupuncture physician. This is my second pregnancy with HG. Acupuncture does not "fix" it. I just love explaining that to all my friends, like it wouldn't have occurred to me to try the very medicine I practice.

As a side bar, I do think it kept me out of the hospital, which is something, but I'm 37 weeks, baby #2 and still sick every day.

I do remember reading a study that it helped a bunch of women, but that wasn't the case for me.

I take Zofran but it basically just keeps me out of the hospital. Im still sick daily.

bangs head on keyboard..."we don't know what else to do with you." The moron really said that? I'd try to kill her. What did she have against you getting the PICC in? My gosh people can be thick. I was so lucky that my homehealth nurse had had HG herself because she advocated for me to the doctors exactly what I needed. I'm so sorry. I hate crackerers.

dumbass you listen to the consulting DOCTOR! if a doctor is advocating a certain treatment i'd tend to think it was a pretty good idea.

We spent about a thousand on acupuncture during our last pregnancy. I also would throw up before I got on the table, after I got off and have to stop to throw up again on the way home. It's great if it works, but not everything works for everyone!

The last thing I would want after all of the IVs is more needles. I wish people would just stop suggesting things when they have absolutely no idea what you're going through.
