Hi all,

I am 11w2d and thought I was getting better, but am not :?

I think my next step is to try homeopathy. Has anyone tried this with any success?

I live in the UK so the medication experience is so different to that in the US. I have so far been on cyclizine and Stemetil, but they haven't helped and I'm still being sick. I'm down 13lb now. Most of that was in the first 2 weeks, but I've still lost a little in the past few days. Thankfully I've only had to go to hospital once (so far) for IV's, but I'm still sick and nauseous 24/7. I had my ketones checked yesterday and they were normal so I guess something is staying in.

With my son, the HG did not go until he was born and the thought of that is hard. I just seem to get pitying looks from the doctor and "oh well".

I am also on heparin injections throughout as a preventative measure as I had DVT at 14 weeks in my pg with Jack.

My husband knows someone at work who didn't have HG, but had severe nausea and she said after only one treatment it went overnight. I suppose I can't hope for that (although that would be heaven!), but maybe it is worth a shot if it helps. Money is tight right now, but again, if it were to make any difference...?

I was looking at the homeopathy info on this site and I think Pulsatilla is probably the best in the descriptions, but trying to decide whether to take the plunge and make the appointment....

Hi Kelly,
I have used homeopathy for the last 2 pg and know that it made a significant difference for me. However, the remedy that worked for me is not one that is even listed on the helpher site.

If you are interested in trying homeopathy, I recommend that you go to a professional educated in homepathy rather than trying to do it on your own.

You also have to realize that it all depends on whether they find the right remedy for you...what will work for each person is different. If they don't find the right remedy, you need to have a back up plan. I know Jacqueline (Stephansmom) tried homepathy without success.

Also, even if they do find the right remedy, it may not be a magic cure. I still had a bit of nausea & vomiting and had to use Unisom/B6 through much of the pg. However, I know I would have been much, much sicker if I hadn't used homeopathy. In pg #3 I was in the hospital twice, lost about 30 pounds & tried every med in the book, including steroids. In my last 2 pg, my weight loss was significantly less AND I had no IVs!!

As far as expense, my experience was that the homeopathy was quite cheap. I'm not sure how things compare in the UK, but after the initial consult with the homeopath, the remedy itself was included...or the bit I had to purchase at the store was just $2-3. Far cheaper then other traditional meds I've had to purchase!!

Good luck to you! If you try the homepathy, plz come back & let us know how it works for you. I would think that if they found the right remedy at this point, you could enjoy a pretty comfortable pg...since you're just about past the peak period.

Thanks Cheri,

That is great news. I did make an appt with a licensed professional and had my first appt today. She spent an hour going over my history and how I was feeling (emotionally too) and like you said the remedy was in with the consult. I only say it is pricey because we get free prescriptions/hospital treatments in the UK. Obviously as this was "alternative" medicine I had to pay for it, but on thinking of it, it is peanuts compared to some of the prices I've seen you guys quote for zofran etc

She ended up giving me sepia I think it is. I've had my first treatment this morning and am to take 2 per day. Time will tell if it helps. I am 12 weeks tomorrow so hopefully the peak is upon me and I'll feel better, if only just to feel human for a little while. I'm to ring her on Friday morning to see how I'm doing and she did say she had something in reserve if this doesn't work.

I'll give it a few goes though. I was sceptical, but am trying to keep an open mind right now.

I'll let you know how I feel in a few days!!!

That is really great news Kelly. I really hope you find it helps!

I was very skeptical about it at first too. However, I realized going into pg #4 that I had already just about everything and that if I really wanted to have a DIFFERENT pg, homeopathy was the only new thing I had to try (other than a picc line  ).

I hope the sepia is a magic cure for you!

Well, I thought I'd wait a couple of days to post any comments.

So far I have found that the latter part of monday and beginning of Tuesday were quite bad and I had a lingering headache on top of that. I was warned though that I could feel worse before better. But, whether it is getting to 12 weeks, all in my head, or what, but the nausea seems to have lifted tremendously now.

I've still been sick in the mornings and a few times, but I can take that if I feel better for the rest of the day. I felt sick pretty much all day before, on top of vomiting, but now the feeling sick seems to have abated. I was sick about 30 minutes ago, but that is only because I just walked an hour in near gale force winds :x . Feel better now though!

I have managed to eat and drink, so if this continues at this level, it really is a huge improvement for me and I can feel somewhat human.

I know it is early days, but it is encouraging so far. Hurray!

I go back to hospital tomorrow for another scan and our nuchal screening, so I think after that things will seem more hopeful (in terms of the miscarriage risk) and maybe I might be able to enjoy some of this pregnancy later. I hope so as I couldn't with Jack or any of the others and this will be my last :( .

Hi Kelly,
I just wanted to check & see how you are doing. Has your remedy helped at all?

Hi Cheri,

Well, I gave it a few weeks and for maybe the first few days it possibly helped with the nausea, but not the vomiting, which was the main issue.

From then I just got worse and worse and then got to be the sickest I had been so far, losing more weight, dehydrated, vomiting more, back in hospital for IV fluids, so I quit it and turned back to conventional medicine.

I saw a specialist (I don't know his title, but he was a Professor!) on Thursday and we decided to go the steroid route. I started them on Thursday, by Thursday night I could eat, woke up Friday morning and for the first day in over 10 weeks I was not sick once! Again, I could eat and drink, I was actually *hungry*!!!!!!! My dose has tapered down from today and I feel fine so far, again haven't been sick and am eating, so I stay on 20mg of prednisolone for a week and then try to get down to 15 and see what happens.

It is truly a miracle. I was very skeptical that even this would work, considering I was sick until delivery with my son and just overnight.....I feel so human. I know probably as my dose comes down or I come off them, or just maybe after my body gets used to them I may start to feel sick again, but I'll take every day I can :D

I'd have loved it if the homeopathy had worked, obviously I'd prefer things to be as safe as possible, but it just didn't help me. The doc I saw said I have a severe case (which I kinda knew, hospitalised numerous times, lost 16lb, vomiting all day every day, unable to keep anything down) so maybe if I'd had a more moderate case it would have worked. But, I tried, so I don't regret it really as at least I know I did all I could before this next route.

Hi Kelly,

(I'd typed a whole message here & my little one just deleted it all for me so I'll try to remember what I said :?)

I'm so glad to hear the steroids are helping. And that you found someone willing to give them to you! I have used them also and found them to be a miracle cure. I was able to eat again and start gaining weight.

I'm sorry to hear the homeopathy didn't work out for you. I'm far from up to date on the boards, but I did read somewhere that your homeopathic consultant wanted you to discontinue conventional medicines. This is just my opinion, but I'm not sure that's possible with hg--maybe with regular morning sickness.

My consultant was not thrilled with the idea of me using conventional meds, and my doctor wasn't enthusiastic about me using homeopathy. But neither of them indicated any danger in combining them. I just decided I would have to judge for myself what was working and add to it.

Anyway, I'm so glad to hear that you've got the steroids and that they are helping. I hope things keep going well!

Hi Kelly,
I am so glad that you are feeling better on the steroids. Hopefully they will keep things at bay until the end.
Thankyou by the way for the info on the ketone strips, I ordered them and they arrived within 24 hours!

Talk to you soon (justa short message today as I have been away for a week and am trying to catch up with everyone on the board!)
