Liver/Body Detox Info for both Pre-Conception & Post-Par

Here the start of the detox info I wanted to include here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Use this a guideline. Detoxes are best preformed under the supervision of a DR. This info is meant to be a guide and overview. Detoxes should NOT be performed by pregnant or nursing women. These detoxes are best for EITHER pre-conception or post-partum.

Detoxing the liver pre-conception has helped some people reduce the severity of HG. The liver acts as a “filterâ€Â

I read somewhere that once you are pregnant there is a way to safely do a little bit of detox. It is not as indepth as a full detox but if you drink a mug of hot water with half a lemon first thing in the morning and last thing at night it is supposed to help clear the liver of excess junk. I've been trying it this pregnancy and I think it might be helping a little.

A mild detox such as you are doing would probably be mild enough for pregnancy :) Im glad you think its helping! Maybe when hot liquids sound appealing I will try it as well!

Thanks for sharing!

Just wanted to let you guys know I websearched Ecliptex. The only website that had anything about it was one for natural treatments for pets  I trust that wasn't the one you meant was it?

Here is some info on Ecliptex. It is not availble directly to the public.

Here is a brief synopsis:

http://www.calvindale.com/formulas/hc-ecliptex.html

And, it is made by a company called:

Health Concerns, Chinese Tradtional Formulas. Here is the website:

I hope that helps! And, no, this product is NOT for dogs! :)

Great thread!
Just going to pop this in here, since it's detox/support for the liver.

In Shonda Parker's book Naturally Healthy Pregnancy, she makes some profound (to me anyway!) recommendations about supporting the liver before and during pregnancy to help with HG.

The book is out of print, but here's most of the information from her book about Hyperemisis and morning sickness.

I kept seeing reference to this book on blogs reporting GREAT success following Barker's program. http://naturallyhealthypregnancy.blogsp ... 20Sickness

This is a wonderful book with great info. FYI, the author presents it in a very faith based format:
If morning sickness was a problem during a previous pregnancy, milk thistle extrat (standarized to contian at least 70% silymarin) is of great benefit to aid the liver's functions. Recommened amount: 280 mg per day. Dandelion is a gentler liver stimulant if a milder liver tonic is desired.
(p23)

The Milk Thistle preconception seems to be the most important time to take it, and then continue during pregnancy. I'll just add that during pregnancy info, since the borrowed book is in front of me right now.

I have tried many remedies during my pregnancies - some have worked well, some worked a little, others worked not at all. I had hyperemesis gravidum (vomitting repeatedly, unable to hold anything down) with my eldest child which was medically treated... With my fourth child, I had no morning sickness whatsoever...
I have come to believe through my own experience and the experience of others that the root of the problem for many women is inadequate liver support during a period of greater demands on this vital organ. If moms begin preparing their bodies for pregnancy prior to conception they will have a better chance of avoiding morning sickness (as well as other factors).
(lists morning sickness recommendations)
2. I have found milk thistle (standardized to contain at least 70% - 80% silymarin) to be invaluable in preventing morning sickness. I began taking 2 tablets each day two months prior to this pregnancy and increased to 3 tablets daily when our pregnancy was confirmed. Milk thistle is liver supportive and protective. I feel this is why it worked so well to prevent the nausea and vomiting I have had with every other pregnancy. This would be especially helpful for those mom who vommit bile during pregnancy.

(p170-171)

From her website:
[quote]Morning Sickness
Q.I just wanted to let you know that I am at the beginning of my 7th pregnancy...the 6th one that has gotten a good start....and for the very first time have not experienced the horrible morning sickness and exhaustion that I have with all the others! I believe it is the mercy and blessing of God through the advice that you offer...Entrox, Milk thistle Phytosome and AbsorbAid three times a day with meals along with a good prenatal and calcium. I'm still in total amazement and awe! I only hoped it would really work, but was skeptical until now! I have a friend who tried this as well with her 5th pregnancy with the same astounding results!!! WOW! I can't tell you how grateful I am to be able to be a "normal" mommy to my other children while carrying a new babe!! I had asked many months ago about a different source for the Milk Thistle Phytosome by Natural Factors as well as the Entrox...because I could not obtain those locally. I did find a source for Entrox by NOW that does not have any added Vitamin E. (just an FYI) Also, Enzymatic Therapy makes a Silybin Phytosome that I think is very similar if not the same as the milk thistle phytosome you recommend...and there are a few web sites that sell this brand. I bought mine from Vitamin Shoppe. The NOW Entrox I bought through BetterLife.com. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know so if you have opportunity to pass it along to other moms weary of morning sickness....again, I so appreciate your help! You are an angel! I hope you are thoroughly enjoying your new babe. love, Natalie

A. Natalie, I’m thrilled to hear of other mothers benefiting as I did from these three supplements during early pregnancy “sickâ€Â

Thanks, Robin. I am SO greatful for all that you've posted ever... not just this thread! :D Robin, did you take Milk Thistle during pregnancy?

I actually tracked down a copy of the book (out of print & hard to find for a decent price) just for the hyperemsis info. I thought I'd just save anyone the trouble since this is all the info on Milk Thistle & Dandelion. I really thought Shonda Parker had some great research. Some people may not be comfortable with the amount of Bible references and religious philosophy, but her research & experience is just SO valuable!

I wasnt able to take the milk thistle and dandelion root long with my last pregnancy (only one I knew of this approach), as keeping pills down is one of the 1st problems I have with HG....

But, I did my herbal chinese mixrture which had both Prior to TTC, and then the month we were starting to TTC I swtiched to the milk thistle and dandelion root. I didnt try it later in the pregnancy, as I tend to get scared of if I try this will it rock the boat too badly in the wrong way??? The HG was the best in my last pregnnacy.... I avoided TPN, although still had a huge issue keeping hydrated (mainly as I could get some foods to stay down, but liquids were super hard). I think a longer better detox could of possibly even yielded even better results.

I agree on your assesment of Shonda Parker. I did find all of her info regarding HG though really interesting and defiently encouraging!!!!!!

Yes, that is the problem of trying to take pills with HG. Just doesn't work! I'm really hoping you're right that the longer detox the better. (I feel like we're having a conversation between these two threads here!)

So, do you know if the Chinese herbs had the 280 mg per day of Milk Thistle/Dandelion with the "at least 70% silymarin"? And were you able to do those herbs for a while? I feel like Dorothy trying to click together my ruby slippers to make everything all better. I find myself hoping you'll say, "Oh, no not nearly enough! If you did 280mg with 70% silymarin for then you'd instantly be HG-free." But... something tells me, while it's fine for me to hope for the Ruby Slippers to work... I'd better also find a good Dr. this time, too!

I hear you on not wanting to rock the boat once things were underway.

Just looked at the bottle of detox herbs (I used them post partum as well), and it doesnt tell me the mgs of milk thistle per tablet. I did however take 6 tablets daily for a while. So, I really dont have a clear answer for you.

I can tell you I switched to the MT/DR when TTC as the chinese herbs had some things that were contra-indicated in pregnancy. My Peri agreed that they were Ok for me to use as well.

Alas.... if only there was some surefire guarenteed way to make sure HG wasnt going to happen. :hugs:
