I just rec'd my TPN picc line, and was taking zofran quick disolve tabs orally..it had stopped working due to dehyration. I got my picc and a a home health care nurse started with a iv dose of fluids and (surprise...Reglan...) It was horrible, I was wipped out for 2 hours!!!..just almost disoriented..stomach cramps...i had to lay down and sleep....I CANT continue taking this reglan iv., a second dose was given 6 hours later, same thing happened..but i dont want to 'cause problems'...the specialist/perinnatol. I have is very kinds and smart..i figure he knows whats best..but why would he have ordered the reglan???? Is there a med.reason..or insurance reason..anyone had this reglan reaction????Is it a reaction. I almost felt better without the reglan iv dose. Good thing the horrible feeling only lasted for 2 hours..but what a bad 2 hours.

is this normal for REGLAN users...(I REALLLLY hated it.)

how come it seems like everyone is taking iv zofran..should i ask for it..since when i wasnt to dehydrated it seemded to work so well.

Help/dying for relief and exhausted from heaving.
Thanks so so much

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so horrible! HG is debilitating and so hard! My thoughts are with you. I'm glad you found this forum...all of us here have been through what you are going through. We are here to support you! (I think I read somewhere else that you are expecting twins? Wow - congratulations!)

Many women have bad reactions to Reglan. I was one of the lucky ones who could take it without a problem, but you are not alone in the reaction.

I think you ought to talk with your doctor to see about other med options. What else are you taking? Did the doctor put you on Reglan instead of Zofran? I definitely think you need zofran - probably along with another med. Many women take zofran (32 mg per day is the max) along with Unisom/B6 or meclizine or phenergan or reglan. And steroids really helped me when nothing else did. There are lots of things you can try! And IV Zofran often works better than ODT.

I had an NG tube instead of a PICC line. I received nutrition that way for 6 weeks. If the PICC line makes you uncomfortable, It might be worth talking with your doctor about the NG tube.

Please let us know how you are doing and what your doctor says. I know it's a holiday weekend, but please call as soon as you can to get the help you need.

Hang in there! I know it is so horrible, but you can make it!

Hello,
I took reglan my last HG pg before they would give me an Zofran pump.
Ins. Co want to try this before the Zofran $$$$$. Anyway, I knew I would not do well on it because my mother had a very bad reaction to it when she was pg ( hg more than 33 years ago - how awful) and we have tended to be allergic to the same drugs. After 2 days on the reglan my tongue started curling up, wouldn't stay in my mouth and my eyes kept rolling in the back of my head . I had pytalism ( the exessive spit thing) going on at the time so I kept choking because I couldn't spit ( have you ever tried to spit with your tongue sticking out of your month??? not good at all!!!
Needless to say I ended up in the hospital to correct the mistake and finallythey gave me the Zofran.
My message to you...... :) please ask for the Zofran!!!
Good luck!

My insurance company was like Cortney's - They preferred Reglan first for expense reasons. This was hypothetical conversation in my case, as I was able to tolerate oral meds, but my doctor was ready to fight about the Reglan because of the adverse reaction I had in every other pregnancy with it (slow learner! :? ) Now that you've tried and know it's absolutely NOT an acceptable med, get your doctor to order Zofran and only Zofran. Good luck!

UGH! Reglan was the worse for me. Not only did it not help, but it made me sooo crazy.
Reglan works by speeding up motility...so does domperidone.
Has anyone tried this for HG? I have heard there are no aweful side effects. Problem is it is not FDA approved in the US....but it may be worth a try.
