What's your anti-acid?

Postby LadyBug1 » Feb 07, 2013 8:00 pm

I don't think the zantac is cutting it anymore. The heartburn is about the same, but now it's coupled with terrible indigestion that gives me a terrible taste in my mouth and makes not vomiting much harder. I'm terrified of vomiting because I'm pretty sure it will start a cycle that will require an IV to stop. I'm going to talk to my doctor about switching next week, any ideas, or what has worked for you?

I used losec (prilosec) after the zantac crapped out.

When the pepcid stopped working, I switched to prilosec. It has been so much better! Last pg I was on protonix, but the Rx for it would have been much more than the OTC prilosec this time.

i've used prevacid, the regular and OTD. when that no longer cuts it, i get 40/mg Nexium. plus occasional tums as i can stomach them.

sometimes a sublingual B6 helps with the taste in my mouth. not always, but hey...we're not that demanding!

The doctor didn't think anything would help the bad taste more or less than the zantac, and since I already have a ton of it, I'm just going to stick with it. She said not to worry about the tums as long as I stay within the daily limit on the bottle. My iron levels are just fine and that's the big concern since the calcium blocks iron absorption.

your Dr is probably right about the antiacid not helping with the taste. i think the taste is just a HG thing. it comes and goes, but it seems like all of us have it to some extent at some point. ah the joys of pregnancy...

I tried Pepcid first, but it did nothing so then I took Zantac 150mg/3x a day. I was never able to get rid of the metallic taste in my mouth though. So your Dr is probably right about the taste. The Zantac helped the reflux a little. If you can try Nexium or Protonix, it might work better. I've used Prilosec, 20mg/2x a day (post HG), and compared to Nexium, was pretty close in relief.
