Hello, I just moved to Arizona and do not know anything about any OBGYNS. I have had 2 previous severe HG pregnancy and am planning on having my 3rd. I am trying to find someone with some ideas on how to treat or at least be sympathetic. I have had no luck with zofran and have been hospitalized with my previous two pregancies. I live in Mesa but don't mind driving if there isn't a Dr. around me. Please let me know!!!!

Hi and welcome!

First of all, take a look at the post in this "Need to Find a Physician!" forum called "Ways to Find a Physician" - it has some ideas of where to start looking for a doctor.

Given that your HG was severe and that you did not respond to Zofran, I suggest that you find a perinatologist/Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist. These are doctors who have more education and knowledge about complications of pregnancy. I was seen by a peri during my HG pregnancy and it made all the difference!

I did a quick search for MFM doctors in Mesa and found three:

ROBERT JOHNSON M.D.
REGULAR (MFM) MEMBER
2605 N. VAL VISTA DR.
MESA, AZ 85213
bjmd@mindspring.com

MARLIN MILLS M.D.
REGULAR (MFM) MEMBER
PHOENIX PERINATAL ASSOCIATES
1450 SOUTH DOBSON ROAD, #321B
MESA, AZ 85210
marlin_mills@obstetrix.com

SHIRLEY SAWAI M.D.
REGULAR (MFM) MEMBER
PHOENIX PERINATAL ASSOCIATES
1940 S. COUNTRYCLUB DR.
MESA, AZ 85210
shirley_sawai@obstetrix.com

I also found a long list of MFM doctors in Phoenix. Go to http://www.smfm.org/index.cfm?zone=search&nav=doctor , type in the city and state, and you will have a list of MFM doctors in that area.

Of course you will need to check if you can see these doctors with your insurance. I suggest calling them, explaining that you had severe HG, and asking to make a "Pre-Conception Consultation."

You mentioned that you would be willing to drive for a great doctor...if you know of any hospitals that your insurance covers within a certain radius, you can call those hospitals and ask if they have a Maternal-Fetal Medicine department. Or you could look at the list of MFM doctors that your insurance covers.

These are just some ideas...let me know if this helps. I'm happy to help you keep looking!
