Contacting HR re: disability, or other options

Postby ktrefz » Jan 09, 2007 9:53 am

Hello :)

I've been sick as a dog for well over a month now. I'm at 11 weeks and there's no sign of it letting up.

I need to email my HR to assess my options about leave, disability, and benefits. I thought I had short term disability, but now I can't find documentation on that anywhere. I do have LTD, however. If need be I can be put on my husband's insurance, but without me working, that gets expensive. Can someone please help me with suggestions of what to say to my HR? I want to say I'm pregnant, I'm sick, and I need to know what my options are, but in a more professional way.

Hopefully someone can help! Thanks in advance.

Does your company have an employee handbook? Could you just ask to review it without giving details? Do you qualify for FMLA? If you do, they must continue your benefits while you are out. If you aren't sure, you can look up here http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/benefits-leave/fmla.htm
