Enduring HG in San Francisco

At 18 weeks I've already switched doctors once, but my new docs are not taking the HG very seriously either. I started in the CPMC system (Dr. Loquist) and switched to the group practice at UCSF, where I unfortunately see a differnt doctor (or midwife!) every time I visit. UCSF is a great hospital but everyone there is extremely nonchalant about HG, and I really feel like I'm on my own. Is there anyone reading this in the Bay Area who can recommend a more compassionate, well-informed doctor? ~Lisa

Hi, I'm in San Mateo. Dr. Elliot Main is the perineonatal specialist at Stanford and he works in Burlingame at Mills-Peninsula Hospital two days a week. He got me through my HG- "worse case he'd ever seen."

He's understanding, compassionate, well-spoken, truthful. (I considered naming my son Elliot!)

I switched my regular ob-gyn to Dr. Jacquelyn Fletcher at Peninsula Women's Health at his recommendation. So far, I'm impressed.... but we'll see. I'm currently ttc.

My last obgyn, Dr. Stodgell, blew me off at the beginning, but after being in the hospital for weeks and consulting with Dr. Main.......I think he started to believe me. :?

I hope this info helps. Before speaking to Dr. Main, I was so very down.... he was the turning point for myself- and for my husband and mom.

Keep in touch. Hugs.

I am also in San Mateo and found that Dr. Sandra Beretta and Dr. Susan Spencer were excellent in understanding hyperemesis. One of the physicians in the practice even had hyperemesis herself. They also referred me to Dr. Per Sandberg in San Francisco who is a high risk specialist for a second opinion. All of these Doctors felt comfortable prescribing medicines and sending me for IV hydration at Peninsula Hospital, and no one questioned that I was really, really sick. To be thorough, I was sent to have my thyroid and liver functions tested as well.

They were also all very calm in dealing with my concerns, which helped to decrease my own anxiety level about my horrible state.

Good luck!!

Hi,
I also recommend Dr. Main's group in Burlingame. I moved from the Bay area 9 years ago but his group was great.
