I am looking for a doctor in one of these areas. I met with a doctor who calls herself a hyperemesis specialist and won't prescribe meds only therapy at first.

Any help would be great. Thanks
Carrie

Hi Carrie,

I live in Westchester and read a recommendation for Dr. Carla Williams at Brookside OB/GYN (914-777-6761). They are located in Greenwich, CT, but also have an office in Mamaroneck. I am not pregnant yet, but have seen her a couple of times to discuss preparation. (She wasn't involved with my other two pregnancies - we moved to the area last year). She is very professional and sounds quite proactive. I hope that you find that helpful and good luck!

Bonni - I did go to Carla. Dr Ramaley was my doctor and he retired. I switched to Culvahouse because I got a bit of a run around with Dr williams.

I went to her the day of my BFP and she told me that she was really proactive. She then went on to tell me that she will not perscribe meds until I am vomitting and she usually starts with lower meds (benadryl, reglan, etc). So since I wasn't vomitting, she wrote me a script for THERAPY! Like a psychologist. She went on to tell me that a lot of this is in our heads and the therapy will help. I was floored. So I left her office with nothing but a sick, scared feeling.

I called Culvahouse and told him about my experience and he called my RE (reproductive endocrinologist) and he called me back and gave me drugs. He didn't even ask to see me first.

I hope you get better treatment from her. She did have HG with both of her pregnancies. Make sure you ask her about meds so you are prepared. I scrammbled and found help but I certainly thought Dr Williams was my ace in the hole.

I hope you get your BFP soon. Let me know status. I am bad the first tri and then it lets up a lot for me. Mainly spitting up all day instead of vomitting. I can always be a support for you.

Thanks!
Carrie

I am so glad that I "talked" to you about this. That does not sound like an approach that would work for me.

I have been having some other experiences with her that concerned me. Although I conceived both of my children very easily, we have been trying for 9 months for #3. I was working with her and felt that she was a bit distant and didn't really seem to take charge of the situation the way that I would have liked. I decided to go ahead and work with a fertility specialist and things have been running much more smoothly.

It was my intention to return to her if I get pregnant, despite my reservations, because of her HG recommendation. It's beginning to sound like she won't be a good match for me. I would love if you could keep me up-to-date with your experiences with other MDs at the practice!

Do you mind my asking who your RE is? Obviously your approach was successful -- were you happy with your treatment? How are you feeling? Thanks so much!

Bonni -

Well I am glad you felt the same chill as I did with her. I am sure she is a very qualified doctor but the sensitivity gene is missing.

My RE is Dr Stangle in Rye. I really like him. I did go to Dr Witt in Greenwich with my DD. Dr Stangle took my insurance. His number is 914-967-6800.

I went through 3 IUIs on clomid and it didn't work. He said I could do IUI with injectables but if I was injecting myself I decided to go whole hog and do IVF. It worked the first try.

With my dd I got pregnant after an HSG. So she was natural. I was so tired of trying (17 months) so IVF was the best solution for me. Not to mention I will be 36 in a few days and that in itself is an issue.

I would be happy to be in touch over your RE visits. I am fully aware of how crappy you feel on drugs (all that and then HG. WTF?). I am a SAHM so I am around.

Talk soon
Carrie

Hi Carrie,

I am currently seeing Dr. Witt and things seem to be going smoothly so far. I am just kind of getting started in the process and had my HSG on Monday. I hope I have some of the luck that you had with your DD. How old is your DD? I have one that is 4 and my son is 2, going on 3 (only 17 mo. apart). Thanks so much for all of your input and sharing your experience. It is nice to talk to someone who understands the frustrating combo of HG and infertility.

Enough about that though... YOU are the one in the midst of the HG which for me was almost unbearable. How are you feeling... are you able to care for your DD still? Does it seem to be worse with twins? I have been through it twice so far and pretty different situations both times. So if you ever need anything -- I would love to help. Do you have a good support system? Let me know if you would like my number, or for me to give you a call. My email is bfandetti@verizon.net if you'd rather reach me that way. I hope that you have an easier pregnancy this time around, sometimes it goes that way!
