How did HG affect your employment?

Please tell us how HG affected your employment. Pick the one that you most strongly associate with right now. If you wanted to pick two, please include that in your post.

I was working when I conceived my first. I had to take two months leave and then tried to go back. HG had taken too much out of me and I quit.

I'll try to think of all the options - sorry if I miss one, if I did just put it in a post.

I chose took a leave and returned to work after pregnancy. I am still pregnant, though, and I haven't returned to work yet. It is my intention to go back after the Christmas holiday.

For the purpose of the poll I voted the option that was closest to my reality.

I was blessed with a very supportive employment situation. I was encouraged to use up my sick leave and then reassess. When the reassessment was not favourable, I was granted "leave without pay" to get me through to my maternity entitlements, so I still received my maternity pay. I then moved into extended unpaid family leave, which I would have done anyway but I'm actually grateful to the HG  that when people challenge me about it I can say "I'm wanting another baby and I don't want people to be relying on me for work when I may show up and then have to go on leave again soon". In my contract I'm entitled to 7 years of unpaid family leave, and I'm currently intending to use them and reassess our lives at the end of that, when I have the option to give a minimum 3 months notice that I intend to return to my position and pay level or relinquish it.

I took a leave but couldn't return to my job and quit because of HG

Hmmm I'm not sure how to vote on this one... I took leave at 8 weeks and couldn't return due to the HG.....BUT... I didn't quit, I had planned to be a stay at home mum, but I wasn't going to stop until 8months, but the HG had me home on sick leave the whole time. I am still on the books now as maternity leave, however once my maternity leave ends, I will then quit.

Anyone know how I should vote?

I chose "I lost my job and I blame the HG". This last pregnancy I was fired for missing so much work. My first pregnancy, I had to take a leave and never went back, but that was 10 years ago. My second pregnancy I had a wonderful boss and was able to continue working, however, that pregnancy was the easiest of all three.

I voted for the situation in my 1st pregnancy. I took a leave and was unable to return due to HG. I honeslty feel like I was let go though, as my employer was not willing to work out a compromise in schedule, etc. However, I was offered a lateral job 6 weeks post partum. I turned it down.

For this current pregnancy, I prevoiusly used all of my extended sick leave time for my 2nd HG pregnancy, which was theraputicly terminated. (I worked part time and didnt qualify for FMLA). So, going into this, we planned for me to quit if neccesary. I did this, as I worked in an ER in a hospital, and it was shift work, and although they would of held the postition for me, I felt it was unfair to my coworkers- espeically since I was planning on quitting once this baby arrived anyways.

Hope that all makes sense :)

I was 'laid off' from my job when my HG was starting to peak.
It was a relief to me to be honest. Because I didn't feel I could quit, but would have had to do if they hadn't let me go because shortly there after I could not get out of bed.

I am currently on a leave from the school district. Not sure if I am going to make it back this year or not. Sick leave only covers 11 weeks. Not sure what I'll do after that.

The group home basically fired me for missing to much work due to HG. They redid the schedule to one I couldn't work. But the school was more supportive. But to be fair I was the most sick in August and ended up using alot of group home sick days from there and by the time I went back to school I was medicated and could function most days.

Well, if I hadn't exhuasted every possible leave due to the 9 months off w/HG... I might not have put "lost my job". But it was because of the HG that all my time was lost and HG certainly helped contribute to the PPD/PTSD which is what I directly lost my job for (taking time off to deal with them). Bottomline, if I hadn't had HG, I wouldn't have lost my job.

I worked during my last 3 pregnancies. With Brody's pregnancy, I just kept racking up sick days at full pay for over 2 months. I tried crawling back in one week, but I quickly wound up back in the hospital. My school district was very accomodating and understanding, but they did say after I came back that if I had another HG setback, I'd have to take disability leave for the rest of the school year. It's been nearly 8 years, and I still owe 15 sick days from that pregnancy; if I'd leave the district, I'd have to repay for those days.

With the girls, I used up whatever sick days I had left and then went on disability leave. I never worried that my job wouldn't be there when I was ready to come back, and I know that I'm very lucky that way.

As an at home mom, Hg didn't really effect my employment as I don't get paid to be home. However, I have had to hire help to keep up with everything.

And, I did have to drop out of college w/ first pg, and never got to go back.

During my first prenancy, I had to quit my job when I was 10 weeks. I was missing a lot of work and hadnt been there long enough to have benefits. With my second, I worked until I was hospitalized at 22 weeks, but Id misseed about 4 weeks of work all together before that.

I didn't vote as I wasn't sure where to place my vote since everything differed for each pg.

First HG pg, I quit in third trimester.

Second HG pg, I was sickest during summer (so as a teacher that's very helpful). I did return to work after HG and miscarrying, but I returned to a much reduced load that first semester back.

Third HG pg, I was again sickest in the summer and am suffering through with a full load of classes as we really need the cash to pay off all the medical bills for the two cases of HG in one year.

I had a total of 26 weeks on leave in a single year...and bless them, my manager and company held my job but they didn't have to after 12 weeks.

I was off 16 weeks while very ill, then off 4 weeks before and 6 weeks after Rory was born. The 4 weeks before Rory was born basically were HG indirectly as the HG had left me so stinking exhausted that I was having a hard time functioning and my peri said I needed to just chill for the rest of the PG as my symptoms were starting to increase again and the driving I do (sales) was getting hard.

So, I guess to be fair it was 20 weeks for HG and 6 weeks for maternity. All paid at 100% base salary and I got my commission for the 1st 12 weeks off and then nothing for the last 14 of the weeks, per company policy. It amounted to close to 7-8K in lost earnings but I am thankful it was only that much!

Had to take leave

I didn't start experiencing the extreme form of HG until I was about 15 weeks. I had to take a leave which my job let me do. After I had my son I decided to stay-at-home and let them know I would not be coming back. Luckily for me I worked for a very understanding company.
