GSK-Zofran Mfr. just won suit

Postby mom2matt » Aug 24, 2004 11:03 pm

Just found this:

http://www.gsk.com/index.htm

"Positive ruling for GSK in Zofran patent litigation
August 23, 2004"...

It seems that GSK, mfr of Zofran has cornered the market, and NO generic will be attempted due to their patent, due to expiration around 2006.

Just thought for those of you holding out for a generic. Sorry.

Shelby-

That is good information. I would caution, however, that no one should get their hopes up about free Zofran. Using it for HG is an "off-label" (meaning not what it is supposed to be used for per the labeling) indication and generally no drug company will provide assistance for patients taking the drug off label.

I think even someone here tried to get help last year and got basically the information I wrote above.

How do you guys pay for Zofran? I am blessed to have an insurance policy that makes it bearable. I cant imagine if I was charged $1000 plus for this stuff! I almost died when I saw what the street price was for it!

How do you guys manage? Does your Doc give you samples? It seems they are tight with those as well!

My thoughts are with you! Before I knew it was covered my Doc warned me about the price. I told her I did not care if it would help!

Im fortunate my dh has great ins from his work. We do have a $35.00 copay per 60 tabs a month. My nutrition thru the PICC-IV is covered at 100%..we would not have gotten this far without insurance...our monthly bill has run nearly $3,000 for the past 4 months.

We knew because of my last pregnancy, this might be the reality, so we did what we could, discussed everthing with the OB, the fetal specialist for nutrition, and the kidney dr. Planning helped.

My heart goes out to the first timers that never would have thought it could be this tuff getting thru.

Blessings
