Kelly -

Well, I just responded to you in another thread, but this will be better to have your search on one thread. Feel free to ignore my other post!

If you can give me the name of one or two hospitals where you'd like to deliver/receive treatment, that would be very helpful. I'll see what I can find for you! I know we can find someone great...Keep hanging in there!

Thanks alot for answering me so quickly. i just cant take this sickness anymore, my doctor had me on zofran but im waiting for my insurance to approve more pills. its hell waiting, i even went to the ER last night, but all they do is give me fluids and send me home. they gave me reglan and its not working at all today, im just at the end of my rope. i dont know what else to do, my last pregnancy with HG wasnt this bad. anyway the hospitals in my area are Victory Memorial Hosp, Maimonides Medical center and Lutheran medical Hosp. i tried to use the refferal service but the nearest doctor was in the city, its kind of far to see a doctor. Please any help you can give me would be appreciated, Thank you.

First of all, I think you ought to see a perinatologist/Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist because he/she will have more training in dealing with high-risk pregnancies and should know more about HG treatments. A "regular" OB may or may not have the knowledge to treat you properly, and since you are already sick, it's not worth the gamble (in my opinion). You need to have a doctor who knows what to do with HG patients (and, yes, they do exist!).

I found some good possibilities. Obviously, check with your insurance to make sure the doctor you pick is covered. Here's what I found:

VICTORY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
I found the website but it doesn't have a physician referral service. If you would like to find a doctor here, I'd recommend calling them and asking for Maternal-Fetal Medicine or Perinatology.

MAIMONIDES
Maimonides Medical Center has a referral service. You can look for a physician either online or by calling them. Here's the link:
http://www.maimonidesmed.org/theme/Fram ... 8&FAC=2084 I think it would be a good idea if you called them - as soon as possible. Tell them that you need a Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctor or a perinatologist. I did a quick search online and found two associated with Maimonides:
Sandra McCalla (here's the link for her info http://www.maimonidesmed.org/theme/Fram ... 8&FAC=2084)
Howard Minkoff (http://www.maimonidesmed.org/theme/Fram ... 8&FAC=2084)

LUTHERAN MEDICAL CENTER
I was unable to search online for a perinatologist or maternal-fetal medicine specialist. So, I think you ought to call them directly. Here is the number of their referral coordinator (718) 630-7979.

I also did a search of all Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctors in Brooklyn. I didn't see a phone number for most of them, but I'm sure you could find them through the hospitals, the phone book, or your insurance.

My advice to call a few of these doctors who are close to you. Ask to speak with the nurse (or, even better, the doctor). Explain that you have hyperemesis, you recently went to the ER for fluids, your current doctor doesn't know what to do, etc. Sound desperate  ! Let them know that you've had HG before but it's worse this time. Ask about the doctor's experience with HG. And, if it all sounds good, tell them that you need to be seen as soon as possible. If you are not up to making these calls (I wasn't up to talking on the phone at all at the worst of HG), see if someone else could call and beg your case for you (your husband, mom, friend, etc.).

I'm sorry this post is so long!! Let me know what you think of these ideas! I hope something will work for you...it may take a little time and research, but I promise finding a great doctor is worth it! Keep hanging in there...

- Anna

P.S. While you wait for zofran, you could try some commonly used over-the-counter meds to fight off the nausea/vomiting. Look at the post at the top of the 1st Trimester area...I think it's called "Must read on Zofran/Unisom/B6."
